Home remodeling projects such as upgrading your bathroom or giving your kitchen a facelift are fraught with big, important decisions. One of the biggest decisions you’ll encounter is deciding which countertop material is right for you and your home. With so many different options to consider, it can sometimes be difficult to narrow down your selection. To help make your decision easier, here are four of the most popular countertop materials you should discuss with your contractor.
Quartz is a very popular countertop material for home remodeling projects. There are a multitude of colors and patterns to choose from, because it’s engineered. This material is nonporous, so it’s easy to keep clean and maintain.
Marble is a stunning choice for homeowners, and it certainly packs a punch when it comes to wowing guests. It is softer than quartz and granite, however; so it can be more difficult to clean. If your family spills often, be aware that marble can stain.
Granite is a wonderful choice for any kitchen update. It’s extremely durable and is available in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Granite is, however, extremely heavy. You’ll need good cabinetry to support it over time.
4. Solid Surface
Like quartz and marble, solid surface materials (e.g. Corian or Livingstone or Formica) are nonporous and easy to clean. As added bonuses, they don’t have to be sealed and you can find them in a lot of different colors. It isn’t as durable, however, and can show signs of wear after a while. There are certified specialists who can sand imperfections out.
